Dr. David King is on the stand. Here's his bio and photo from the Mass General website:
Dr. King is a trauma and acute care surgeon with military combat experience at the Massachusetts General Hospital Trauma Center. His practice is limited to caring for the acutely injured and traumatized, emergent surgical illnesses, as well as surgical critical care.
This includes treatment of all traumatic conditions, such as traumatic brain injury, pneumothorax, hemothorax, pulmonary contusion, blunt cardiac injury, liver and splenic lacerations, pancreatic injury, mesenteric lacerations, pelvic fractures, spine fractures, renal injuries, and all injuries to the intestines and blood vessels.
Dr. King treats all conditions that are the result of penetrating injuries, such as gunshot and stab wounds, as well as blunt trauma such as falls, assaults, and motor vehicle crashes.
He received his medical degree from the University of Miami. -

Dr. King says you can tie a tourniquet around limbs to stop the blood loss --- but deep wounds to other parts of the body create extreme challenges. You can't tie a tourniquet. You may be able to apply direct pressure, but he says, really, "you need a surgeon."

This exhibit photo taken in front of the Forum restaurant shows Tsarnaev -- wearing a white hat -- standing behind the Richard family. Martin is wearing a black jacket and standing on the barricade next to his sister, Jane.
Dr. King tells the jury that children are at "particularly high risk for injury, blood loss or death" from a bomb blast because they are smaller. -

The full scale exhibit of the grate is rolled out in front of the jury box. It's difficult for us to see in the gallery, since it's on the floor...but as it was being rolled out it did bear a striking resemblance to the grate Tsarnaev placed bomb on top of. Martin & Jane Richard were standing on the barricade right next to it.

Intense, heartbreaking testimony to end the prosecution's case...
Steve Woolfenden describes pushing his son Leo in a stroller past the Forum restaurant as the second bomb exploded. Woolfenden lost his left leg below the knee. Leo suffered serious head injuries.
Just a few feet to his right, Woolfenden says he saw a little boy and his mother lying on the sidewalk.
"I saw Martin's face," Woolfenden tells the jury. "I could see a boy who looked like he was fatally injured."
"I saw his hair had been singed," he says. "I saw his eyes were rolled in the back of his head. And his mouth was agape."
Woolfenden says he noticed Martin had severe injuries to his torso.
"I saw an immense amount of blood," he says. "I was really, really terrified."
Woolfenden says he could hear Denise saying "Please" and "Martin" over and over. The Forum surveillance video shows her rocking back and forth over her son's damaged body.
"I didn't see any response to her," he says. "I placed my hand on her back and Denise turned to me for a moment and asked me if I was OK. And I said yes, I'm fine."
Woolfenden says Denise then turned her attention back to Martin.
The photo above shows Denise and Bill Richard standing with their oldest son, Henry, and the late Mayor Tom Menino on the one-year anniversary of the bombings. -
