I still think Brazil will win the World Cup. I have since last summer when I watched them grow in strength through the Confed Cup. Let's not beat around the bush, they're not a great side in terms of quality. But there's obvious unity and spirit there and Scolari's consistency means that they're as settled as anyone. Throw in home support and a feeling of manifest destiny and you've got yourself a set of World Cup winners. But when they rank all their winners in order of quality, I think the only debate will between this Brazil and the Brazil of 1994.
sapta, for an offside from the original free kick. Correct call in my opinion.
There are unconfirmed reports that Neymar has been taken to hospital, but more will become clear in the coming hours.
There were 54 fouls in this game and only four bookings, the first of which came in the 64th minute, far too late to have any calming effect on anyone. When you ref a game like that, people take advantage, When people take advantage, players like Neymar and Rodriguez get brutalised. It's not bias, I very much doubt it's corrupt, but it is negligent and I sincerely hope that's the end of Carballo's World Cup
Right, that's it for the Gillette Boot Room for the first day of the 014 World Cup semifinals! Germany beat France 1-0 in a drab affair, but Brazil saw off Colombia in a tempestuous battle that will stoke the debate all night. Big thanks to Iain and you lot for another superb effort - be back tomorrow for Argentina vs. Belgium & Netherlands vs. Costa Rica. Bye for now!
Thanks everyone, see you tomorrow night!
