Hello and welcome to the Gillette Boot Room for the 2014 World Cup Round of 16!
I’m Tom Doyle, and I hope you all got a good rest yesterday as we’re right back into the swing of things today. Hosts Brazil take on Chile at at Belo Horizonte in just under 30 minutes; while the Selecao will be favourites to progress, La Roja are not to be underestimated.
Welcome, Adam - glad to be of service!
After today's first offering, we’re off to Rio where Colombia take on Uruguay at Estadio do Maracana - though La Celeste will have to battle without their star player Luis Suarez, who has been banned four nine international games and foul months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the group stages.
Suarez’s ban means he cannot even enter a stadium, so will be prevented from cheering on his teammates today – harsh, or justified?
Hey pat, glad you could make it back!
Gw, it certainly will. They're a good side without him, but his absence could well cost them the game.
Sure, Pete - Thiago Silva, Ramires, Luiz Gustavo and Neymar would all be suspended for the quarterfinals should they get booked.
For Chile, it'd be Arturo Vidal, Charles Aranguiz, Francisco Silva and Eugenio Mena.
Ian, they reset from the quarterfinals onwards, but it's accumulative from the start of the groups until that point.
Nick, that's all back for you!
MkUtd, Vidal is "nowhere near 100% fit" according to coach Jorge Sampaoli, but he's a risk worth taking.
